Rockport Lux Lodge Boots Review

Rockport Lux Lodge Boots

With winter fast approaching, it’s about that time to get your gear ready for the freezing lements. One key component to not only staying warm in the colder months but also keeping a sense of style is having the right winter boots. Well, we have good news for all of our readers out there searching for warm and stylish boots as we just reviewed the new Lux Lodge boots from Rockport, and we were impressed. These great looking boots will be worn by the staff at the Aspen Snowmass ski resorts this winter season and Bullz-Eye.com can certainly understand this choice after testing the Lux Lodges. The Lux Lodge boots sport a padded collar and tongue to help prevent blisters and lace bruising; upper reflective details that promotes safety in the dark (ideal for nighttime walking); and waterproof full-grain leather that helps keep your feet dry and makes them easy to clean and extends product life.

These are also very comfortable boots, and part of the reason why is technonolgy including EVA with adidas adiPRENE, which is a highly shock-absorbent cushioning that protects the heel at impact, CMEVA which provides lightweight shock absorption for reducing foot and leg fatigue, and a rubber outsole that provides a durable grip on a variety of surfaces. Keeping your feet warm and dry is something Rockport invested in the new Lux Lodge’s with 3M Thinsulate lightweight insulation that helps keep feet warm in cold weather, and the impressive Hydro-Shield waterproofing substances that are tanned into the leather consisting of a special seam sealant which helps keep feet dry in wet weather.

Now, what was also impressive is the reaction from folks who commented on the sleek styling of the Lux Lodges, which is basically a huge bonus when you consider how effective they are in keeping your feet warm and dry and extremely comfortable while in the cold. Looking good is always important, and though staying warm is number one when you’re in freezing conditions, style was obviously still very high on the list at Rockport with the Lux Lodge. Nike is going to pimp your college football team

Before their fight songs ring throughout the stadiums and they storm the fields, nine of the top college football programs in the country will lace their cleats and buckle their chin straps while donning uniquely designed, highly advanced Nike uniforms for at least one game during the upcoming 2011-12 season.

Of course, we’re still not entirely sure why Nike is turning this into such a big event. It seems like a whole lot of hoo-hah for only one game, and unless fans have the opportunity to buy their own version of these exclusive uniforms and gear, it’s hard to imagine many of them caring what their favorite teams are wearing as long as they win.

Still, the players themselves have to be pretty excited, as the Nike Pro Combat uniforms not only integrate the latest in performance innovation and design, but have been created using elements from each school’s rich history to capture their unique character. Long story short, it’s going to improve their overall game and make them look really cool doing it.

The teams selected for the honor of donning these one-of-a-kind uniforms include the United States Military Academy, Boise State University, University of Georgia, Louisiana State University, Michigan State University, the United States Naval Academy, Ohio State University, University of Oregon, and Stanford University.

The uniforms will hit the field on opening day of the 2011-12 college football season and throughout the year during some of the fiercest rivalries in the NCAA, with match-ups like Oregon vs. LSU on September 3rd, Michigan State vs. Michigan on October 15th, Ohio State vs. Wisconsin on October 29th, Stanford vs. Notre Dame on November 27th, and the annual service academy matchup between two of the nation’s most prestigious football programs – Army vs. Navy – on December 10th.

Pack up and go with Slappa’s Kampus and Stovepipe backpacks

A bag for every situation. That may not be Slappa’s official slogan, but it could be. We’ve reviewed a slew of Slappa products over the years, most recently the 18” Kiken shoulder bag and the M.A.S.K. custom build backpack. Like all of Slappa’s gear, both the Kiken and M.A.S.K. offer loads of space, but while the Kiken works best for daily commutes and business travel, the M.A.S.K. is a customizable backpack perfect for overnighters and weekend trips. Slappa’s newest bags, the Kampus and Stovepipe duffle-style laptop backpacks, serve a more utilitarian purpose: to get as much of your gear as possible from Point A to Point B. Fortunately, with bottomless main storage areas and padded laptop compartments, Point B can be any number of destinations, from a long weekend with your buddies or a getaway with your girl to your Economics class across campus before heading to the gym.

Both backpacks are super lightweight and feature a 3.5 gallon duffle-style main compartment, a dedicated .25” super-cush padded laptop compartment (available for 16” or 18” laptops), and a pair of decently sized inner pockets perfect for gadgets, school/office supplies or any other handheld items. The Kampus, however, sets itself apart with its outer pockets and overall design. The khaki version we reviewed is a great looking bag, which is precisely what we’ve come to expect from Slappa, and the two other color choices look cool as well. Two large and seamless pockets stretch across either side of the backpack while a third vertical pocket bisects the front of the bag. All three pockets are deep but, as I learned when packing for a recent camping trip, they unfortunately didn’t offer as much usable space as I’d hoped once I stuffed the inside of the bag full of clothes, toiletries and my laptop. The mesh pocket on the inside of the top flap makes for one more useful storage area, although that too is somewhat limited depending on how full the main compartment is.

The Stovepipe is fundamentally the same bag but with a different skin. The three deep pockets from the Kampus are replaced with four smaller pockets on the outside of the Stovepipe. Unfortunately, none of the four pockets offer much space at all. In fact, we’d rather have just two deep side pockets that go all the way to the bottom of the bag than the four shallow pockets stacked in pairs on each side. The bottom pockets in particular seem almost pointless – maybe for pens and pencils, a couple jump drives and pocket change, but not much else. We also weren’t too keen on the front “jacket-flap,” which folds down and hangs off the front of the bag when it’s open, but design elements like that typically are just a matter of taste.

Slappa stayed true to the duffle bag concept with their Kampus and Stovepipe backpacks by offering tons of packable space in the main compartment but precious little additional pocket space anywhere else. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it does limit each bag’s usefulness since the vast majority of the stuff you cram in there will be in the same area, making it a bit of a challenge to find what you’re looking for, especially if you have clothes and other gear all mixed together. These aren’t bags you’re going to live out of for a weekend – I pulled all my clothes out during my camping trip so I didn’t have to dig through the bag every time I wanted to change my shirt – but they are bags that will get you and your stuff to your weekend. They also pack up great and are easy to sling across your back, even when they’re packed to the gills, which makes them perfect for hikers and bikers, particularly those who need to travel with their laptops.

If you prefer backpacks to duffles, Slappa recently introduced two new faces for their M.A.S.K. custom build backpack. We first tested the M.A.S.K. a couple years ago with the High Five and KOA custom faces, and now Slappa has two more options: the Transit and Koop faces. Each is built similarly, with a foldout pocket at the bottom and a deeper, more useful pocket at the top, but the Koop is more of an eye-catcher with its electric blue styling while the Transit features a third pocket in the front, sitting stealthily behind two flaps. This extra pocket isn’t big enough to hold much more than a passport, wallet and plane ticket, but that alone makes it useful. In fact, the M.A.S.K. together with the Transit makes for one super useful carryon bag with easy accessibility. Yet another Slappa bag for another situation.

Rockport DresSports truWALK Wingtip Review

Rockport is in a full court press with new and stylisg releases for the the fall 2011. New on the Rockport launch list are the Rockport “DresSports truWALK Wingtip” men’s shoes.

We had the pleasure of testing a pair of bitter chocolate suede DresSports wing tip’s featuring Rockport’s proprietary truWALK technology. truWalk architecture provides a natural full range of foot motion from shock absorption at heel strike to forefoot flexibility during push off. That translates into some of the most comfortable shoes you ever put on for either work or leisure. This is also accomplished with the Adidas geofit anatomically shaped collar and heel padding which provides comfortable, supportive fit combined with an EVA outsole that provides lightweight shock absorption for reducing foot and leg fatigue. The DresSports certainly don’t look like high tech shoes as the styling is conservative and modern but under the hood the latest technology is working for you to keep your feet in great shape.

Rockport also incorporated into the DresSports Wingtips a Polyurethane footbed that provides durable cushioning to reduce localized foot pressure. These are some of the “smartest” shoes we’ve tested and they are just hitting the market so check out you local Rockport retail stores or if you want to take foot comfort to the next level.

Rockport Day-to-Night Wingtips review

Looking ahead to fall what styles will catch our eye? What are the latest trends in shoes? Rockport clued Bullz-Eye in on a few of their star releases and our feet thanked them for the gesture. We first tested the Rockport “D2N Wingtip” in which are Suede wingtips in winter smoke colorway and let me tell you my friends these are some very sharp shoes. They will be released in July 2011 and they are eye grabbing footwear.

Comfort is right on target with leather lining that provides moisture absorption and abrasion resistance. The premium suede is easy to clean and the leather socklining provides durable moisture absorption and sonforms to the shape of your foot. These Day to Night Wintips are some of the most comfortable shoes I’ve worn in many a moons. I found out part of the reason is that the footbed incorporates Adidas Adiprene highly shock absorbent cushioning which protects the heel at impact. As far as the classic look is concerned the Italian leather and rubber outsole provides durability and helps protect the product life. Looking good in the box is one thing but with Rockport quality the D2N Wingtips will provide plenty of mileage for those who appreciate the best for your feet.

These kicks from Rockport are Fall 2011 styles and will be available for retail at Rockport retail stores and Rockport.com!
