5 Stylish Rides

We hear this story all the time, those guys that claim I don’t care about cars, as long as it gets me from A to B. Want to know a secret? Those people are liars. Who wouldn’t want to cruise around in a car that turns more heads than a laughing clown game? Even my partner, the most eco friendliest of hippies, dreams of nothing more than owning his very own 911 Porsche. Perhaps these naysayers have only been driving Toyota Camry’s and don’t know any better? Well these rides should know, here are the top five cars that ooze style, class and even a bit of swag.

Aston Martin Vanquish

There have been times in Aston Martins past where their vehicles have won on the road and times where models have simply flat lined, remember the short-lived Virage? Despite this fact, everyone still wants to claim for themselves a slice of cinematic history. I mean, who wouldn’t want to re-enact that illustrious image of Sean Connery suavely relaxing against his Aston Martin staring broodingly into the distance? The Vanquish line is hands down the most exquisite model to date, the interior screams soft leather which is perfect for long drives around the cliffs of the country side and whiles it’s not the quickest of the Aston Martins, it’s certainly involved.

Mini Cooper

The Mini often cops a lot of flak, mostly because it is reserved for Daddy’s little girls and those who just see it as an oversized go-kart. However, those people are dead wrong. The Mini Cooper handles just as well as a sports car and is practical yet super stylish. While it’s probably not fit for a family car, the Mini Coop is perfect for inner city driving.

Jaguar F Type Coupe

This bad boy is hot of the manufacturer’s line, and claims to be the fastest and most dynamic model ever released by Jaguar. We hope so, because Jaguar (otherwise known as the kitty cat of the automotive industry: Stubborn, self-absorbed and untameable) has been going back and forth between moments of sheer brilliance and unfortunate nose dives. The new bloodline boasts a 3.0 litre V6 engine that is powerful and refined, a sleek body type, quick shift transmission and more assistance to allow drivers to focus on the pleasure of the drive.

Range Rover Sport SE

Four wheel drives are normally bulky and abrasive characters, designed for the Real Housewives of Whatever City to somehow manoeuvre and crash into a shopping cart return at the supermarket. However, the new Range Rover Sport SE asserts a radical change with sleeker lines, an aluminium-bodied lighter-weight, improved off-road skills, and a far more lavish interior. For whole range of Land Rovers check out this luxury SUV comparison.

Maserati GranTurismo

When it comes to rides only attainable by the 1%, the GranTurismo is a key favourite. Out of all the Italian cars available on the market, the GrandTurismo is the only one that’s exotic without telling the world that the owner is obnoxious. Maserati are really good at focusing on the finer details and this car scores top marks when it comes to style, technology and craftsmanship.

4 Reasons for Men to Pursue Opportunities in Social Work

career key

Some careers, for whatever reason — a stereotype, for example, or a history of hiring one gender over the other — attract a significantly higher number of members of a certain gender. Many women have strived to break down the gender barrier in various careers, but it exists for men, too, in some occupations. Social work is one area where the women greatly outnumber the men, but men can make a major difference if they choose that path.

A Rewarding Career

Men and women attending college both as an undergraduate and as a graduate student look for career paths that are enjoyable, growing and financially stable. Social work is a rewarding career that allows students to make a living while getting involved in the community.
Social work is a field that will always exist, no matter the economy’s state. In fact, there’s even more need for social workers when the economy isn’t doing well. Social work provides a stable, well-paying job even in a poor economy. Click here to learn about the financial benefits of earning a masters of social work.

Less Competition

In a struggling economy, every open job has dozens or even hundreds of job applicants. It’s a struggle to find any job, let alone a rewarding one. However, men will face less competition for social work positions, particularly if an organization specifically wants a male worker to work with male clients. After investing time and money in an advanced degree, it’s important to know there will be jobs in your field after you graduate. Not every major can offer less job competition, meaning you may not be able to work in your chosen field unless you choose one that’s actively seeking people like you.

Empathy With Male Issues

Everyone brings their own experiences to a job, even if given equal training. Women do well in social work not only because of their individual talents in the field, but because they can empathize with women’s issues when helping female clients; however, the same can be said of men. There are many men and boys who require social work assistance, and a male social worker can empathize with some of the male clients’ issues more effectively because of his insight into the male mind.

While social workers of both genders can work with clients of both genders, the fact remains that male clients are less likely to seek the assistance they need because they mistakenly believe there are only women social workers available who may not understand them.

Helping Other Males

There are a large number of male clients who may feel more comfortable with a male worker. There’s a stigma attached to men seeking mental health and poverty counseling, a falsehood that it makes them “weak” or “non-masculine.” Male social workers help to dispel the notions that mental health counseling is offered only by women primarily for women.

The goal of social work is to help people live healthier and more productive lives. That means helping not only people with poverty issues, but also helping people with substance abuse problems and even physical abusers to lead more productive, stable lives. A large portion of substance abusers and physical abusers are male; they may not feel comfortable talking about their issues with a female social worker, especially if their victims were female. But both to save these clients and to save anyone affected by their actions, they need support. Having male social workers available can inspire men to come for help.

PolyMic reports almost 82 percent of social workers are female. To say there’s a gender gap in the field is an understatement. Men searching for a rewarding career that allows them to get involved in their community shoulder consider social work. There’s plenty of room for talented male social workers, and you’ll help organizations attract and retain male clients. Look into earning your degree in social work today.

Reasons to buy a convertible

BMW convertible

Convincing your significant other that it’s a good idea to invest in a convertible is a job in itself. Driving in one of these bad boys has always been a dream of yours, but you need to convince her that you aren’t going through a mid-life crisis. You’ve worked hard, you put in the time, you saved the money – you just want a sweet ride dammit! We hear you, and that’s why we are here to help. Here are some reasons (excuses) as to why buying a convertible is a justifiable idea.

You’ll get your daily dose of vitamin D

Considering we are already a time poor society, who really has the time to take a daily vitamin? (although by this stage in your life, you are probably already taking at least five.) Continuously having to purchase vitamins can be expensive, but what if I told you that you could save yourself some money by eliminating one of the issues you’re supplementing? If you are currently dealing with a vitamin D deficiency, that problem can be easily eradicated by purchasing a convertible. Every time you hop into your swanky new ride, you’ll be relishing in the nutritious ultra violet rays the sun provides you.

Unlimited head room

How many times has this happened to you: You’ve on the road, when all of a sudden you come across a statue sale, not just any old regular sculpture – a jumbo Buddha statue sale. You know a deal like this isn’t going to come around very often (you’ve been dreaming about a massive Buddha in your yard for years), but you’re currently driving a sedan so how on earth are you going to fit this thing in your car? You could always just hire a removalist, but that will cost money, they’re not open on a Sunday and the sale is only for one day. This wouldn’t be an issue if you were driving a convertible; you can easily slide that bodacious beauty into your car right then and there and plant it in your garden that afternoon as a nice surprise for the special lady in your life.

Fosters an interest in science

Learning about astronomy in school is boring; it’s all slideshow presentations and videos from the 80’s. If you want your kids to learn about the universe, you’ve got to take a hands on approach and let them experience it for themselves. By taking them for a late night drive in your convertible to look at the stars, you may just be nurturing the next NASA astronaut or rocket scientist.

Your own personal hairdryer

If you’ve been spending a half hour in the morning blow-drying and primping your luscious locks, you may have noticed the damage your morning routine has place on your quarterly electricity bill. With a convertible, not only do you cut down on the time it takes to dry your hair, you’ll leave the car with that perfect windblown look only achievable in shampoo commercials. Not to mention, your electricity invoice will thank you for conserving so much energy.

A relationship saver

Think about it, when was the last time you saw a sour looking couple driving around with the top down? When you’re out in the open air, the combination of wind noise and exposure to other vehicles makes a fight in a convertible jaguar less likely than in a hatchback.

2013 Holiday Gift Guide: Booze

Walk into any liquor store and you’ll see hundreds of options. You can zero in on someone’s favorite drink when picking a gift, or you can get creative and choose something they wouldn’t buy for themselves. Also, remember that you don’t want to come to a party empty-handed, so get in the habit of at least bringing a bottle.

And for more gift ideas, check out the other categories in our Holiday Gift Guide.

Craft Beer Club

If you have a beer lover on your list, you can give him or her the gift that keeps on giving. The Craft Beer Club discovers exceptional craft brews from around the country and delivers them each month direct to you or your gift recipient. Every selection is produced by small-production, independent brewers who use only traditional brewing ingredients and time-honored brewing methods. In addition to traditional bottled beers, they also embrace the hundreds of small craft brewers around the country that offer their hand-crafted beers in cans. It’s a great way to enjoy craft beers and it’s ideal for the holiday season.

Laphroaig 10 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

If dad, your buddy, your tomboyish gal pal or anyone else on your holiday list loves a very good bottle of Scotch, then consider this rather dandy, unusually enjoyable single malt. Outstanding on the rocks, with a splash of water or soda, or neat for you purists, the Laphroaig 10 Year Old is also more mixable than you might assume; on the other hand, it’s good enough that many will consider even the finest cocktail made with it a crime against nature. The website tells us that it’s got traces of salt and seaweed along with the usual peat and smoke flavors, but we don’t completely agree. It’s definitely got smoke – indeed, you might get hungry for barbecue after you take a good whiff and, yeah, that’s some salt in there, but that’s not all. Every good Scotch has its share of several indescribable tastes and smells of nature. We haven’t been to Scotland, but we wouldn’t be one bit surprised to find ourselves tasting the essence of this concoction in the clear cool air of the highlands. Cheaper than super-duper premium single malts but nearly double what you’ll likely pay for Chivas Regal, this is an outstanding gift for a true blue Scotch enthusiast.

Brugal 1888 Dominican Rum

If you’re in search of a bottle for the man or woman who’s drunk everything, Brugal 1888 is something genuinely new under the sun and it’s completely remarkable. An aged Dominican rum that thinks it’s a premium Scotch or Bourbon, it has the tantalizing, woody and astringent flavor you might get in very a high-end single malt, plus a hint of something that somehow reminds us of our dad’s old fake-leather chair. (That’s a good thing, believe it or not.) At the exact same time, it has a boldly sugary undertone that goes well beyond what you’re likely to find in the sweetest bourbon. We tasted more than a hint of maple syrup or maybe turbinado. Regardless, it’s delicious and probably not like anything you’ve had before. You can drink this on the rocks, with a bit of water, or neat. You can also put on your mixologist hat and go to town as this is a flexible beverage that won’t be out of place in an Old Fashioned, especially if you use real maple syrup in place of the usual sugar or simple syrup. High priced for rum but worth every gosh darn penny, this is one boozy gift that won’t be forgotten.

Cabo Diablo

This is the best new spirit we’ve tried in a long time. Cabo Wabo is known now just as much for its excellent tequilas as it is for its founder Sammy Hagar, and this new Cabo Diablo should attract many more fans. Cabo Diablo features a delicious coffee flavor and tastes amazing when you drink it straight. It’s sweet, but not too sweet, and it’s not think and syrupy like some liqueurs. So it’s a fantastic sipping drink that men and women should both enjoy. But better yet, it’s a tequila, so it’s also a great way to get a party going, as tequila makes everyone a little nuts at times. It is made with 100% blue agave Cabo Wabo Silver tequila, then kicks in notes of fresh roasted coffee, vanilla and chocolate for a striking combination. It’s excellent served chilled or on the rocks. With the holidays around the corner, this makes for a great gift for men and women, and it’s a great bottle to bring to a gathering to get the party started!
