2014 Valentine’s Day Gift Guide

The type of gift you give will naturally be determined by the type of relationship you have, but in every case, it’s important to put some thought into it. Paying attention to the little things will go a long way as well. A gift that’s very personal to her will make a bigger impression than the price tag on the gift. That said, you can’t go wrong with brand-name gifts that will make her friends jealous. Here are some ideas to get you started.

The Bouqs Co. Flowers

Buying flowers can be a horrible experience, which is probably why a lot of guys don’t even bother. But what if there was a company that not only guaranteed fresher flowers at a reasonable price, but did so in style? That’s the basic concept behind The Bouqs Co., which cuts its flowers (from the side of an Ecuadorian volcano, naturally) on the day you order and delivers them within two to four days. Fed by pure volcanic snow melt and mineral-rich, pH-balanced soil, the flowers are brighter and can be enjoyed longer compared to other online floral companies. Better yet, it costs a flat $40 for a bouquet with shipping, and there are no annoying up-sells like cheap candy and stuffed teddy bears. Additionally, The Bouqs Co. farms practice sustainable, eco-friendly farming, only cutting what they sell, and offer its workers competitive living wages and services like on-site childcare and healthcare, and adult education. It’s win-win, so you no longer have a reason not to get your special lady the flowers she desperately wants.

Blendtec Designer Series Blender

A kitchen appliance may not be the most romantic gift on Valentine’s Day, but trust us when we say that your wife or girlfriend will absolutely love the Blendtec Designer Series Blender, especially because it means you can focus more on each other instead of food prep. While many people are content with filling up their kitchen cabinets with gadgets that only serve a specific purpose, the Blendtec Blender is effectively 12 appliances in one, including a coffee grinder, food processor, hand mixer, ice crusher, ice cream maker, whole juicer, meat grinder and immersion blender. Featuring a powerful 1560-watt, 3-peak horsepower motor, this thing is an absolute beast, blending just about anything you throw at it… and up to five times faster than its competitors. (Don’t believe us? Check out the company’s series of Will It Blend? videos on YouTube.) It’s also incredibly easy to operate, with six preprogrammed blending cycles and a touch control manual-speed slider. Though the Blendtec is a little bit on the pricey side, when you consider how many different machines you’d have to buy to replicate its various uses, it more than pays for itself.

What to buy a guy for Valentine’s Day

ties

When picking out a gift for that special lady in your life, there are plenty of options to choose from, whether it’s timeworn classics like flowers and candy, riskier presents like lingerie or more thoughtful items like a day at the spa. But if you’re on the other side of the relationship, buying something for your loved one on Valentine’s Day isn’t quite as difficult as some people would make you believe.

Though ties may seem like the kind of throwaway gift that people pick up at the last minute, that doesn’t make them any less useful. Even men who don’t dress up on a daily basis need a tie or two in their wardrobe, and those guys are often the ones that require the most help when it comes to choosing the right one. That’s where the folks at Ties.com come in handy, offering a variety of styles, colors and accessories that will keep you looking your best.

The company sent us over a trio of Valentine’s Day-hued neckties (read: purple and pink) that we wouldn’t normally think of buying ourselves but actually looked really great with formal and casual outfits. We also got a really cool paper-rock-scissors bow tie that forced us to search on YouTube for instructional videos on how to tie the damn thing – something that every man should learn at some point in their lives.

And the best part is, many of the site’s ties are not only budget-friendly, but they’re also incredibly well made. So what are you waiting for? Give your lady a hint by keeping the Ties.com website open on your computer for her to see, and with any luck, your wardrobe will be much improved in no time. If all else fails, you can always use the tie in the bedroom instead.

Hearts and models for Valentine’s Day

Here’s a fun gallery to get you in the mood for a holiday that is targeted primarily to women. We worked with a studio in Los Angeles that had a fun heart-shaped guitar that we used for several sets, so here you see the amazing Jessica Hall and the lovely Athena Lundberg with some great shots posing with the guitar. We also have sexy Rachel who placed a heart drawn with lipstick in a spot that will definitely grab your attention. Enjoy!

Men: Don’t Even Think About Getting These Valentine’s Day Gifts

Choosing the right gift for your wife can be a challenge if you’re not looking in the right place. But this doesn’t mean you settle down for anything. Valentine’s Day is special and your gift should be special. Here are a few gifts that you should avoid giving to your wife…

1. Stale Candy: Yes, candy is a big part of Valentine’s Day and it’s a common gift. However, if you’re going to give it, do it properly. It’s a bad idea to give a box with missing pieces, and a few other cracked open. You should always, always ensure that the candy you’re giving is new, fresh and tasty. Also, don’t forget to add flowers with the candy. You’ll find a good selection of flowers online to choose from.

2. Cheap Dinner: Valentine’s Day is when your woman expects you to treat her extra special. She wants you to take out in the best possible way, which is why dinner on cheap is a bad idea to start with. You can definitely put that change you found under the sofa to a better use. But for dinner, make sure you treat her royally.

3. A Virtual Gift: Yes virtual gifts are all rage and happening. People give them to each other all the time. But a virtual gift for Valentine’s Day? It’s a strict no-no! Whether you buy a picture of a lava lamp, or a graphical heart – the point is that virtual gifts don’t work for Valentine’s Day. Period.

4. A Stuffed Animal: Women expect you to buy them gifts that are especially bought for them. So when it comes to expressing your love to your woman, keep away from stuffed animals. Your wife is an adult and she has no use of a stuffed animal. The solution is to avoid giving any stuffed animals and instead focus on donating to a local charity as it makes for a thoughtful gift.

5. Racy Sleepwear: When you buy lingerie for your wife, you know it yourself that it’s a gift that’s more for you than her. It’s just another excuse to gift your woman some racy sleepwear. Valentine’s Day is is an occasion couples feel happy and want to remain together. It’s not a day to ask your partner to put on some lingerie so that she feels sexy.

6. A Local Gym Membership: Do not make the mistake of using Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to suggest your Valentine that she can lose a few pounds. That’s right – women are highly self-conscious about their weight and you gifting a gym membership will only make it worse.

There you go! Six gifts that you should stay away from on Valentine’s Day if you want to make the most out of it.

Men, Make This Valentine’s Day About Acts of Service

Valentine’s Day means different things to different people. However, one thing is certain: it doesn’t matter how stupid, irrelevant, commercialized and unimportant Valentine’s Day is, it’s not going anywhere. So, men, it’s time to figure out how you’re going to make the woman in your life happy during this holiday. Many men choose to simply buy her something expensive. However, sometimes showing your love through acts of service can be just as important. So, this year you can save some money and spend some time actually doing things to make her happy.

Clean the Entire Home

Chances are, she spends a lot of her time cleaning up after you and the kids. Do you know why she takes care of things like this? Because nothing feels better than a nice, clean home. This year, show her how much you care by cleaning the entire home for her. Remember, this is Valentine’s Day. That means you need to do more than simply vacuum and do the dishes. Think of big ways you can help. Clean the carpets, baseboards and dust everything. It will be a huge help, and she’s sure to notice it. Use succulents as an accent once the house is clean to tie everything together.

Paint the Walls

Perhaps your house is already clean. If so, there are other ways that you can do things around the house. If she’s been talking about putting a fresh coat of paint in one of the rooms, paint it for her while she’s out one day. This will take a bit of planning. Find out what color she wants to paint the walls. Bring it up in conversation, or take a more direct approach by bringing her to the home improvement store in town.

Finish the To-Do List

If your house is clean and walls are painted, then there’s certainly a list of things that she’s been wanting you to do for several months now. Dig out that list and get to work. Don’t stop until you’ve marked everything off of it. She’ll love the fact that you finished everything she has asked you to do. Understand, though, that once you finish it there will certainly still be more that she’ll want you to do. A real man’s work is never done.
Acts of service are a great way to show your love on a deeper level. Be sure to still get her chocolates and flowers, of course. But you can save that diamond necklace for your anniversary. This year, show her how much you love her through acts of service.
