R.I.P. David Bowie

David Bowie was one of the most unique and innovative artists of the 20th century. It wasn’t just about his incredible music, but the man was a true showman who reinvented himself and his look over and over again.

Bowie passed at the age of 69 after a battle with cancer, yet the news was a shock to most people who had no idea he was ill. He had just released a new album and I was just thinking the other day if Bowie had yet another influential turn in his career that would have an impact on music, style and popular culture.

Ten years ago we published our David Bowie Deep Cuts list as part of our ongoing series of looking back on the music of great artists. Check it out and you might be introduced to some great music from Bowie that you haven’t heard before.

His list of hits is long of course, and I wanted to post a great video, but “Rebel, Rebel” is one of my favorite Bowie songs so that seemed appropriate, though the video here just includes one classic Bowie photographed. Bowie was a rebel who will truly be missed.

Bullz-Eye’s 2015 TV Power Rankings

It’s another clean sweep for cable and streaming outlets for our annual list of the best shows on television. Netflix alone has four shows on our list, despite “House of Cards” dropping off. With so many outlets battling to create original content, the old TV networks just can’t compete when it comes to producing the best of the best.

Fortunately, in today’s world, if you’ve been missing out on some of the best shows, you can always find a way to binge watch and catch up.

We’ve kept the spoilers to a minimum, but you might want to skip over some of the write-ups if you’re behind on a particular series, as we naturally refer to recent events.

1. “The Walking Dead”

After the gruesome confrontation with the Terminus cannibals, Rick and the gang were tired and ragged without an obvious destination, so the introduction of the Alexandria safe zone offered an interesting twist to the story. Here the group suddenly found some much-needed normalcy in terms of their surroundings, while it was just a matter of time before the awkward interaction between Rick’s battle-tested crew and the clueless and sheltered inhabitants of Alexandria would lead to real conflicts. This year offered some interesting character developments as they got a much-needed though temporary reprieve from the daily battles with the walkers. “The Walking Dead” seems to get more interesting each year as the writers explore how humans deal with a post-apocalyptic world both on an individual and tribal level, so it remains our choice as the best show on television for 2015.

First Drive: 2016 Lexus RX

2016 Lexus RX First Drive Charleston SC

I was invited by Lexus to Charleston, South Carolina to test drive the redesigned RX crossover. The traditional and historic setting of Charleston offered an interesting contrast to the sleek and ultra-modern design of the new RX, and the vehicle offered a very comfortable and luxurious mode of transportation as we toured some of the historic sites around this iconic Southern city.

Car Review – 2016 Lexus RC 350 F Sport

2016 Lexus RC 350 F Sport

Lexus introduced the RC as its new luxury sport coupe last year and we tested the new RC 350 F Sport for the 2016 model year. This Lexus delivered an all areas, from design to performance and comfort.

Exterior

The exterior of the RC is bold yet elegant, though I probably wouldn’t choose the Molten Pearl color of our test model pictures above. The Lexus signature spindle grille dominates the overall design with LED headlamps and separate L-themed daytime running lamps. The F Sport package offers some nice upgrades with the 19-inch alloy wheels with a distinctive 10 twin-spoke layout to create a deeply sculptured shape. Check it out from all angles and you’ll see a beautiful vehicle that fits the sport coupe segment perfectly.

2016-kia-optima

Kia recently brought us out to beautiful Aspen, Colorado to test drive the all-new 2016 Kia Optima on some stunning mountain roads. This sunny landscape with the lovely fall leaves was a perfect setting for Kia to introduce the redesigned version of the most important vehicle in the Kia lineup. The Optima has been a big hit for Kia and sales continued to increase nicely this past year. Naturally, Kia’s goal is to build on the success of this sharp yet practical mid-size sedan which has become one of the staples in a crowded segment.
