5 Stylish Rides

We hear this story all the time, those guys that claim I don’t care about cars, as long as it gets me from A to B. Want to know a secret? Those people are liars. Who wouldn’t want to cruise around in a car that turns more heads than a laughing clown game? Even my partner, the most eco friendliest of hippies, dreams of nothing more than owning his very own 911 Porsche. Perhaps these naysayers have only been driving Toyota Camry’s and don’t know any better? Well these rides should know, here are the top five cars that ooze style, class and even a bit of swag.

Aston Martin Vanquish

There have been times in Aston Martins past where their vehicles have won on the road and times where models have simply flat lined, remember the short-lived Virage? Despite this fact, everyone still wants to claim for themselves a slice of cinematic history. I mean, who wouldn’t want to re-enact that illustrious image of Sean Connery suavely relaxing against his Aston Martin staring broodingly into the distance? The Vanquish line is hands down the most exquisite model to date, the interior screams soft leather which is perfect for long drives around the cliffs of the country side and whiles it’s not the quickest of the Aston Martins, it’s certainly involved.

Mini Cooper

The Mini often cops a lot of flak, mostly because it is reserved for Daddy’s little girls and those who just see it as an oversized go-kart. However, those people are dead wrong. The Mini Cooper handles just as well as a sports car and is practical yet super stylish. While it’s probably not fit for a family car, the Mini Coop is perfect for inner city driving.

Jaguar F Type Coupe

This bad boy is hot of the manufacturer’s line, and claims to be the fastest and most dynamic model ever released by Jaguar. We hope so, because Jaguar (otherwise known as the kitty cat of the automotive industry: Stubborn, self-absorbed and untameable) has been going back and forth between moments of sheer brilliance and unfortunate nose dives. The new bloodline boasts a 3.0 litre V6 engine that is powerful and refined, a sleek body type, quick shift transmission and more assistance to allow drivers to focus on the pleasure of the drive.

Range Rover Sport SE

Four wheel drives are normally bulky and abrasive characters, designed for the Real Housewives of Whatever City to somehow manoeuvre and crash into a shopping cart return at the supermarket. However, the new Range Rover Sport SE asserts a radical change with sleeker lines, an aluminium-bodied lighter-weight, improved off-road skills, and a far more lavish interior. For whole range of Land Rovers check out this luxury SUV comparison.

Maserati GranTurismo

When it comes to rides only attainable by the 1%, the GranTurismo is a key favourite. Out of all the Italian cars available on the market, the GrandTurismo is the only one that’s exotic without telling the world that the owner is obnoxious. Maserati are really good at focusing on the finer details and this car scores top marks when it comes to style, technology and craftsmanship.

Car Review: 2014 Jeep Compass Limited 4 x 4

jeep_compass_1

As the Jeep brand continues to grow, there appears to be a Jeep for just about every lifestyle. Delivering the packaging and interior flexibility of an SUV with the performance, handling, fuel economy and price of a compact car, the 2014 Jeep Compass delivers for those wanting a little less size than traditional Jeeps. After driving the 2014 Jeep Compass Limited 4×4 for a week, we learned that the Compass offers an array of clever features that consumers will appreciate, whether commuting to work, driving in challenging weather conditions, or exploring new trails or out-of-the-way places.

EXTERIOR

The exterior of the 2014 Jeep Compass has been refined with specific updates that move the design forward. At the front of the Jeep Compass North and Limited models, the grille has been enhanced with a plated upper grille trim and in-color billet silver grille texture. The halogen headlamps now have a black inner bezel on the Sport and North models, and the Limited models have projector halogen headlamps with a black inner bezel and chrome fog lamp bezels. The Jeep Compass also features painted mirror caps, tail lamps with a new “smoked” inner bezel, a plated chrome insert on the tailgate trim applique, new available 18-inch aluminum wheels on Limited models, and a new plated chrome insert with a recessed “Jeep” badge on the tailgate trim applique for models equipped with the available Rear Backup Camera. Our deep cherry red crystal pearl coat test model boasted features such as high beam daytime running headlamps, 18-inch aluminum wheels, power heated mirrors with manual fold away, bi-function halogen projector headlamp, premium fog lamps, deep tint sunscreen glass and acoustic windshield.

INTERIOR

As sharp as the exterior design is on the 2014 Jeep Compass Limited 4×4, the cabin is what really impressed us the most. For the 2014 model year, the Jeep Compass interior has been tastefully upgraded with accents and a trim that customers will appreciate. Upgraded features include a new interior trim option in the Jeep Compass Limited model as tested saddle brown perforated leather-faced seating with accent stitching. We found these leather seats to be extremely comfortable and stylish for any vehicle regardless of price! The North model includes a new sport mesh and vinyl seat with light grey accent stitching, and the light pebble beige trim features a new tangerine accent stitch on the seats. In addition, the armrests and center console lid are now wrapped in vinyl and the instrument cluster overlay graphics have been updated.

Reasons to buy a convertible

BMW convertible

Convincing your significant other that it’s a good idea to invest in a convertible is a job in itself. Driving in one of these bad boys has always been a dream of yours, but you need to convince her that you aren’t going through a mid-life crisis. You’ve worked hard, you put in the time, you saved the money – you just want a sweet ride dammit! We hear you, and that’s why we are here to help. Here are some reasons (excuses) as to why buying a convertible is a justifiable idea.

You’ll get your daily dose of vitamin D

Considering we are already a time poor society, who really has the time to take a daily vitamin? (although by this stage in your life, you are probably already taking at least five.) Continuously having to purchase vitamins can be expensive, but what if I told you that you could save yourself some money by eliminating one of the issues you’re supplementing? If you are currently dealing with a vitamin D deficiency, that problem can be easily eradicated by purchasing a convertible. Every time you hop into your swanky new ride, you’ll be relishing in the nutritious ultra violet rays the sun provides you.

Unlimited head room

How many times has this happened to you: You’ve on the road, when all of a sudden you come across a statue sale, not just any old regular sculpture – a jumbo Buddha statue sale. You know a deal like this isn’t going to come around very often (you’ve been dreaming about a massive Buddha in your yard for years), but you’re currently driving a sedan so how on earth are you going to fit this thing in your car? You could always just hire a removalist, but that will cost money, they’re not open on a Sunday and the sale is only for one day. This wouldn’t be an issue if you were driving a convertible; you can easily slide that bodacious beauty into your car right then and there and plant it in your garden that afternoon as a nice surprise for the special lady in your life.

Fosters an interest in science

Learning about astronomy in school is boring; it’s all slideshow presentations and videos from the 80’s. If you want your kids to learn about the universe, you’ve got to take a hands on approach and let them experience it for themselves. By taking them for a late night drive in your convertible to look at the stars, you may just be nurturing the next NASA astronaut or rocket scientist.

Your own personal hairdryer

If you’ve been spending a half hour in the morning blow-drying and primping your luscious locks, you may have noticed the damage your morning routine has place on your quarterly electricity bill. With a convertible, not only do you cut down on the time it takes to dry your hair, you’ll leave the car with that perfect windblown look only achievable in shampoo commercials. Not to mention, your electricity invoice will thank you for conserving so much energy.

A relationship saver

Think about it, when was the last time you saw a sour looking couple driving around with the top down? When you’re out in the open air, the combination of wind noise and exposure to other vehicles makes a fight in a convertible jaguar less likely than in a hatchback.

The benefits of a small car

Ford Focus

So ol’ Betsey just isn’t cutting it anymore? She splutters for five minutes when you start her up and she struggles going up the slightest of inclines. It’s always been a love/hate relationship, but you’ve now come to the conclusion of I need a new car. Congratulations, and welcome to the market! So what’s your new investment? Are you at a crossroads, jumping between going big or small? Purchasing a car is a big deal and deciding on the right car for you is important. Besides considering the make, model, year, and price, consider the size of the car. There are many benefits to owning a small car; they are no longer the econoboxes of yesteryear. Small automobiles now give the big boys a run for their money in terms of design, technology, space and durability. Here is just a few reasons as to why your next car should be downsized.

Parking and Storage

Besides taking on sand dunes and muddy hills, everything is easier in a small car. You can glide into practically every parking space with ease, unless you’re a completely incompetent driver, and in that case, you should have never got your licence. Jokes aside, small cars are ideal for those living in a built up urban areas with limited parking spaces. Unlike an SUV, a small car will easily fit into narrow garages allowing for additional storage after parking your car.

Less Gas = More Mileage

The main disadvantages commonly found with a large car is that they are massive gas guzzlers. Considering petrol is pushing $3.50 a gallon, an extra $100 in mileage on top of your weekly car repayments really hurts the hip pocket. A small car is the complete opposite. Not only will you have to fill up less frequently, but when you do, you’ll have no fear in doing a happy dance when you notice that the pump doesn’t spin over $100.

Cheaper to Maintain

Servicing your car is something not many people look forward to, especially if you think your mechanic is going to charge you an arm and a leg. Small cars like Ford Fiesta and Focus offer an abundance of maintenance saving opportunities, starting with the simplicity of how the car is built; smaller car means less time in the garage and hardly any fussing about for you. Unlike a large vehicle, it’s rare that you will have to spend more than $1,000 of a set of new tyres, and any spare parts you might need will be significantly cheaper.

Packed With Technology

Technology is no longer limited to luxury vehicles and large cars. Carmakers are now free to cram every high tech gadget at their disposal into these downsized chariots. In a new model, you’ll likely find in-dash navigation systems, hard-drive based entertainment units, in-car communication offerings, smartphone integration, heated seats…. Oh and multiple cup holders. Under no circumstances can you neglect the practicality of numerous cup holders.

What do you look for when purchasing a new car? Would you go for a large car or a small one? Tell us in the comments below.
