Described by host Amy Poehler as “a celebration of real friendship, real fellowship, and a kind of community with other girls,” the web series “Smart Girls at the Party” is a kind-hearted, fun and educational program for kids and their parents alike, but especially for young girls. Often specifically focusing on girls who enjoy activities traditionally thought of as being more for boys, the series enjoyed a significant viewership boost in its first season when it introduced its youngest interviewee, seven-year-old Ruby, who speaks precociously about feminism. Its most-viewed episode to date features a 14-year-old boxer named Precela, and another highlight features a young robotics engineer named Rachel.
These are the “girls who are changing the world by being themselves,” in the words of Poehler, who hosts the show with the tongue-in-cheek seriousness of a news anchor before ending each episode with a dance party. Along with producer Meredith Walker and musical director Amy Miles, Poehler explores the special talents and interests of each girl – or in a few episodes, groups of girls – and interviews them, always ending on a “very serious question,” such as “pizza or cotton candy?” or “which is cuter, a baby panda or a baby monkey?” However, despite poking fun at self-serious interview questions, the series never makes fun of the girls or treats them or their interests with cynicism or irony. Instead, it clearly aims to imbue its young audience with a sense of self-worth and individuality, without being boring or preachy.
Now in its second season, the series has markedly improved from its first few episodes, adding a “World Famous 20 Second Song” segment for Miles and boasting higher production values. There are also some familiar faces in the dance parties that parents will enjoy spotting, including Poehler’s husband Will Arnett (who returns from the first season), as well as her “Parks and Recreation”co-stars Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman, Rashida Jones and Aubrey Plaza. Look closely and you’ll also spot folks like Jon Hamm, David Cross and Jack McBrayer in later episodes. With its own new channel on YouTube, “Smart Girls at the Party” is slicker and more fun than ever, and is highly recommended for viewing with children, especially daughters, between the ages of five and fifteen.
It’s pretty interesting to see how hot Jane Fonda was back in the day, and “Barbarella” ranks up there as Jane’s most titillating role. In the film, Jane performs a zero-gravity striptease, seduces an angel and still has time to save the universe! Her Barbarella character is a sultry space adventurer in the ultimate sci-fi romp. The cover art for this film is just awesome.
The film is out today on Blu-ray so you can enjoy the lovely Jane in super high def on your big screen in all her late-60s big hair glory. Jane Fonda helped make this wild and outrageous film a cult classic. It was directed by Roger Vadim (Fonda’s ex-husband) and was filmed at the height of the psychedelic era.
Here’s an event we wish attended. Beautiful actress Meagan Good performs with the Pussycat Dolls in Las Vegas! Check out the red carpet interviews and then clips from the amazing performance featuring Meagan and the dolls in some sexy lingerie for the performance.
Hollywood is all about the Benjamins (what’s new?) so we shouldn’t be surprised, and the studios are eager to make anything that will highlights CGI effects in order to capitalize on the foreign box office.
Fortunately, “The Amazing Spider-Man” is a worthy reboot of the franchise according to Jason Zingale in his Bullz-Eye.com movie review. The cast is excellent, and we have a clip of the lovely Emma Stone above discussing her role on the red carpet.
The pool scene in Vegas is always a great spot for beautiful women, particularly celebrities.
Singer and reality TV hottie Nicole Scherzinger continued her birthday celebration on Saturday at LAVO and TAO Beach in Las Vegas, spicing up the weekend pool scene. The current “X Factor UK” judge hung out with friends overlooking the entire pool scene as they took over TAO Beach’s Grand Cabana. “Thank you for coming out to celebrate my birthday with me,” Nicole stated. “This is my dedication to you.” Throughout the day, Nicole was spotted playing with dangling mustache glasses, taking photos with fans and later jumping on the mic once again to surprise the crowd with a performance of “Don’t Cha” and a medley of her other hits. All eyes were on Nicole as she let loose and grooved to the sounds of DJ Lema, who dropped the world premier of Nicole’s newest record “One More Shot.”

Diehard fans of classic Hollywood starlet Raquel Welch will be happy to know that another of her films has been released on DVD. In “Flareup,” Raquel stars as a go-go dancer stalked from Las Vegas to Los Angeles by the psychopathic ex-husband of her friend. The trailer above is classic, as the dancing scenes from Raquel and her amazing figure are front and center in the promotion of the film. “Flareup” was released in 1969 and isn’t a particularly memorable film, so we’re assuming only her most ardent fans will check it out. But Raquel looks amazing as usual and she delivers a solid performance.
