Rumble in the Jungle – 40 years ago today

It’s been forty years since Muhammad Ali stunned George Forman in Zaire, as he tricked Forman into punching himself to exhaustion with the now famous rope-a-dope strategy. 25-year-old Forman had recently destroyed Joe Frazier and was a huge 4-1 favorite heading into the fight against the 32-year-old former champ, but he was no match for Ali’s mind games and craftiness.

Here’s a great write-up of the anniversary from Bill Dwyre and the video above has clips from the fight and from a documentary as well.

I miss the days when boxing had so many characters and so much drama. Nothing today can match it.

Shark Surfing is No Bull

Just in time for Shark Week comes the newest fake extreme sport: “Shark Surfing,” in support of the new AMP Energy “No Bull. Just Energy.” campaign. In the video, extreme sport enthusiasts Josh and Damien are back to take on a second over-hyped sport. While the guys attempt to tame sharks on the high seas, MMA champion and long-time AMP Energy athlete Urijah Faber makes a special guest appearance and looks on at this new sport in disbelief.

The brand recently launched its new campaign with a two-part video series introducing the fake extreme sport, Full Contact Skydiving, which had America buzzing about whether or not the new sport was real or fake. The brand then revealed that Full Contact Skydiving was in fact a made-up sport via a second video, letting consumers know that they shouldn’t buy the hype if they are looking for real energy from an energy drink. The two videos combined generated over 2.5 million views.

Shark Surfing is yet another reminder that while other energy drink brands focus on hype and extreme activities, AMP Energy is all about providing real energy without the hype. Check out the latest video below:

Dallas Cowboys’ DeMarco Murray on Old Spice Robot: He’s the “Man”- droid

demarco-murray-interview

2013 was great for DeMarco Murray. After an injury-riddled second NFL season in 2012, Murray broke out with 1,471 yards from scrimmage, 10 touchdowns and was named to the Pro Bowl, where he scored the game-winning touchdown.

Thanks to a partnership with Old Spice’s new “Mandroid” robot, Murray is entering 2014 brimming with “Smelf-Confidence.”

We asked DeMarco about Old Spice, “RoboCop,” his career thus far and the upcoming Cowboys 2014 season.

Are you hanging out with the new Old Spice robot as we speak?

“No, but I wish I was; he’s my robotic friend. Later on, I get to hang out and have dinner with him. He’s still sleeping from last night.”

Well, according to these new ads, he picks up all the hot babes.

“He does! That’s the guy to be around.”

Speaking of robots, who would win in a fight between him, RoboCop and the Terminator?

“Old Spice robot man, of course.”

Entering week seven in 2011, you were second on the depth chart. You rush for a franchise record 253 yards in the game against the Rams, a game you didn’t even start. Talk about your progression from that performance to being named to the Pro Bowl in 2013.

“I was given the opportunity to play because a couple of guys got banged up. And I was fortunate to have the game that I had. I never thought in a million years that I’d ever have a day like that. But I knew my time would come, so I made sure I was prepared to make the next step. Once I got the opportunity, I never looked back.”
