You should already know that physical fitness is important to keep the human body healthy and in shape. There are many great sports out there that give the body a complete workout, and tennis is definitely one of them. Tennis is an extreme full body workout, since you are moving, twisting and turning constantly as you follow the ball. You don’t need separate cardio routines when you play tennis.

Whether you decide to join a competitive tennis group or just play for fun with friends, you’ll need some basic equipment in order to get started.

Basic Tennis Equipment

There are a few things you need, aside from a great tennis court to play in, in order to become a tennis pro (or just play for fun). Even to just play for fun with friends, you’ll need some basic tennis gear and equipment in order to get started. You need a racket, tennis balls, you need some comfortable clothes you can move in. You’ll also need a good pair of tennis shoes since you need to be able to quickly move to a ball flying your way and hit it with a tennis racket back across the net, and not out of bounds. Depending on how often you play, you may also need extra strings for your racket.

If you’re lucky enough to have your own court on your property and want to get in some practice on your own, you may also want to invest in a tennis ball machine. This is a must-have investment if you plan on going pro with your tennis skills. The tennis ball machine is the only way to go if you want to practice alone.

Practice Makes Perfect

Not only will practicing alone or with friends help you hone your tennis skills, you’ll also find that your body starts to look a little different. Tennis is a great way to tone your muscles, get lean and get strong.

For anyone that has ever played tennis, it’s not always the easiest sport to play, especially if you are out of shape when you get started. Don’t give up though. With practice you can master the game. Plus, the more you do it the more in shape you’ll be and you’ll find some of the running and twisting gets easier.

Other Health benefits

Just like other cardio fitness events like running and jogging, the fast pace of tennis gets your blood pumping which can increase circulation. It also helps your brain to release endorphins, which are feel good hormones. Your cortisol levels will drop, which is the thing that makes many people gain weight. The more you play and the better shape you get into the more energy you’ll have.

Tennis is also a great way to develop hand-eye coordination, since you need to be able to move to a ball flying your way and hit it with a racket back across the net and not out of bounds.

If you’re ready for a great workout and want to try out a sport that is not just fun but good for your health, tennis is a great option. It’s a sport that you can play at any age, as long as you have the ability to move, twist and turn. The more you do it the more flexible you will become too.
