It is believed that the message inscribed within a Fortune Cookie bring luck, but words of fortune aren’t always what they’re made out to be. Gala Casino have put together a list of weird and wonderful fortunes to support International Fortune Cookie Day, and here are few of the quirkier examples:

Finding a Jackson Pollock painting in a Californian thrift store? This is modern art at its best, as Teri Horton, a long-haul truck driver paid $5 for the painting, having no idea of its significance to the world of modern art, refusing a $9 million offer from a Saudi Arabian investor and insisting that she will accept nothing less than $50 million for it, read the full story here.

We’ve all seen what metal detectors can do in films, but in reality we’re much more skeptical. However, according to the Daily Mail, Mary Hannaby struck gold literally when on a beach walking with her son, finding treasure depicting the Holy Trinity which was worth £250,000.

The Declaration of Independence was the seminal moment in the history of the United States. How did Stan Caffy have an original copy of the document commissioned by John Quincy Adams in his garage? Well, according to Desert News it ended up in the hands of Michael Sparks who having purchased it for $2.48, sold it at auction for $477,650.

Bernice Gallego of California ended up finding a baseball card in a box of antiques. Upon placing it for auction on the website Ebay, such received inquiries regarding its origins. It transpired that the card was one of the first ever produced, and swiftly taking it down from her $10 online auction, she ended up selling it for over $64,000. If that isn’t enough luck for one person, she also won $250,000 on a slot machine.

A quiet life of retirement eluded Eric Lawes, who lost a hammer in his Suffolk garden. Using a metal detector to find it he stumbled across a silver coin, and continuing his search a solid-gold necklace. In fact, what Lawes had found was arguably the most important evidence of Roman artefacts on the British Isles, which were valued at the sum-worthy-of-an-emperor of £15 million.

Although you may never be as lucky as the above people, there’s still luck to be had. What will a fortune cookie reveal to you?

A number of excellent and humorous fortunes have been collated by Gala, including ‘Before an evening of romance, turn off the cell phone’. The merits of this fortune cannot be understated, and following the cookie’s advice could definitely prove a fruitful exercise!
