"my prediction is that Bobby will be for Jax what Piney was for Clay. That is, the (relatively) old member, an artifact of another time, powerless to stop Jax’s treachery but still constantly yammering in his ear about it."

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, since I haven't seen it discussed elsewhere on the internet, but one of the recurring themes in the show seems to be the generation gap: the feud between the tailend of the Silent Generation (JT/Piney) and the Boomers (most of the currently senior members of the club, the senior Old Lady Gemma, and their peers outside like Nero and Unser) and that between the Boomers and Gen XY (Jax, Tara, Juice, Half-Sack, etc.)

In the "analogies" and "transformations" department, it also looks like to me that Roosevelt is becoming more and more like Unser in his willingness to wheel and deal with the club, despite his insistence at the start of season 4 that things were going to be different.

Great write up.

I had the same feeling about how the Tig and Pope thing would play out. I liked it even though it was one of the more unbelievable setups. Jax basically takes out Pope and his whole crew. Right . . .

The Gemma stuff is just getting old. It's the same old crap with her and it's getting boring.

You hit on some interesting themes, but the show is starting to resemble a day time soap opera. I know they're setting up the drama for next season but the Tara arrest was just silly. Too much drama happens to fast on this show. Overall it's still good, but after 5 seasons it's getting a little stale for me. It seems like a lot of the fun has been taken away.
