I'm slowly getting back into running too (usually 2 - 3 miles at a time). I do it for the fitness & health, in addition to some weight training. I walk as well, but walking just doesn't feel intense enough. I don't want to ever become an unhealthy, unfit wimp, no matter how old I get!

Good luck with the marathon!

Love it! Run for the same reasons as you. In September it will be a year since I started and I am now confident I will never stop. Always run without consistency at University for your same reasons, and although I played a variety of sports my fitness always let me down a bit. Now my recovery times are quicker and I can last longer. I'll run my first half marathon soonish and my first marathon around March or April in 2012. I wonder how much my times will differ from training during the race 'cause everyone keeps telling me that you run faster in a race because of the adrenaline... guess I'll soon know if it's true. Anyway great article and keep enjoying your runs..
