Wow, a D-minus for the omission of one film…? Harsh grading scale.

For the record, “this list” didn’t miss “Brainstorm.” It was a cable staple during the ’80s, so it was definitely on our radar, and if we’d done 50 final films from no longer living legends, it certainly would’ve been on there. But you’ve got to stop somewhere, y’know?

If we’d included more recent actors in the piece, Heath Ledger probably would’ve earned a spot, but I think it’s pretty clear that the thrust of the feature was an earlier generation of thespians. Even so, though, I think we’d be hard pressed to include Brandon Lee. Bruce, certainly. Brandon, however, hadn’t achieved “legend” status.

As for the Johnny Cash shout-out, it’s a great video, to be sure, but as you say, it’s not a movie. If we were going to do a list of legendary last videos, however, it’d be a shoo-in.

Surprised you left Vincent Price\’s haunting appearance at the beginning of Edward Scissorhands off. Also, she may have been lesser known after the decline of silent movies, but Lillian Gish was in a touching if overwrought movies in 87 with Better Davis called Whales of August.
